FORECASTING BREAKTHROUGHS WAVE AND ZONES OF FLOODING OF THE TERRITORY AT AN ACCIDENT ON A DAM

Abstract

Analyzing the accidents that have already occurred at the hydraulic structures on the ground dams, it is possible to make forecasts of the probability of occurrence of emergency situations and to calculate the possible consequences. In case of accidents on ground dams, the dam ridge often erodes with the formation of a breach, through which the water front, spreading in the lower dam of the hydrosystem, forms a breakthrough wave and, as a consequence, flooding the territory. Forecasting of the breakout wave propagation as a result of the accident was carried out using the example of hydraulic structures of the dam near the pond of Zhadovsky Dergachevsky district, Saratov region. To predict the breakthrough wave and the flooding characteristics of the terrain when the waterworks facilities were being destroyed, the "Volna" program, version 2.0, was used. The main parameters of the damaging effect of the breakthrough wave are determined by its speed, height, depth and lifetime. Based on the calculation results, the map shows the zone of flooding of the territory with a maximum width of 138.77 m.
